Opposite directions from the same starting point
From a distance, Palette and Ankra look alike: agents in your clusters, blueprint concepts at the core, one place to manage everything. But they point in opposite directions. Palette manages Kubernetes downward - the distribution, the operating system under it, the bare metal and hypervisors under that, extended from the CNCF Cluster API project. Ankra runs Kubernetes upward - the Helm addons, the applications, the GitOps delivery, the incidents, and the AI that operates all of it.
Which direction you need is the whole decision. Telcos and defense agencies provisioning thousands of edge sites from the OS up need Palette’s direction. Blueprints: Cluster Profiles vs Stacks
Palette’s Cluster Profile is a versioned object in Palette’s API that stacks OS, distro, CNI, CSI, and addons, and Palette holds clusters to it. Ankra’s Stack is plain Helm charts and manifests written back to your own Git repository, reconciled by Ankra’s native event-driven GitOps engine. The practical difference shows up twice: day to day, your engineers read and review stacks as ordinary Git changes; and on the day you leave, a stack is still a working GitOps setup while a profile is an export from someone else’s API.
Two meanings of “AI platform”
Spectro Cloud’s AI story is about running AI workloads well: GPU scheduling, edge inference, the infrastructure underneath models. Ankra’s AI story is the platform engineer itself: you describe what to ship, the AI drafts the stack, you approve, the engine reconciles it, and when something breaks the AI reads the lifecycle graph that produced the incident and drafts the fix as an approval-gated Git change.
